Committee to supervise Lomé mining funds

President Balaguer has appointed a committee that will supervise the European Union funded program to support private investment in mining. The Comité de Supervisión del Programa de Desarrollo Geológico y Minero is now in charge of channeling some RD$3331.3 million in assistance from the European Union in support of the domestic private sector and foreign companies that seek to participate in the development of mining in the Dominican Republic. This organization is presided over by the Minister of Industry and Commerce. Other members are the Ordenador Nacional de Lomé, and designated representatives of Rosario Dominicana, Dirección General de Minería, CORDE and INDRHI. Decree 126-96 also created the Unidad Técnica de Gestión that will be in charge of executing projects under the Programa de Desarrollo Geológico y Minero (SYSMIN).
