Ministry of Agriculture says that production is down

Most of the Dominican agricultural products have declined in production when compared to 1995, according to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture. The report contradicts a conclusion by the Central Bank that has indicated in its quarterly report that “for the third consecutive month the price Index of Foodstuffs has declined, a reflection of the increase in the supply of farm products in the last few months, especially those that are included into the notional “family food basket”. The Ministry of Agriculture, however, indicates that some 26 principal products showed a decline in production, and only 10 showed an increase. Products showing declines were garlic, celery, sweet potatoes, aubergines, onions, pigeon peas, okra, plantains, paw paws, melons, cucumbers, beetroot, cabbage, and tomatoes.
