The PRD has launched 50,000 telephone cards on the market in an attempt to collect US$500,000 to help finance the campaign of José Francisco Peña Gómez, its presidential candidate. “Peña ’96, PRD Cash,” is the commercial name of the long distance telephone card being sold both here and in the United States. The finance committee of the party, said that some 35,000 cards will be marketed in the United States and another 15,000 in this country. The scheme called for the wholesale purchase of a large package of time from a local telephone company to be resold through the cards at competitive prices.
