The Attorney General of the National District, Dr. Zoila Martinez de Medina, has called for a “total disarming” of the civilian population. Her statements are apparently a reaction to the tragic death of a judge who was overseeing the eviction of a businessman from a property in Santo Domingo.
During the action, Apolinar Tineo, the person being evicted, and owner of a hardware store, opened fire on the authorities, killing Judge Domingo Suarez, who was overseeing the legal aspects of the operation.
Dr. Martinez de Medina told the news media that she will meet with the Minister of the Police and the Interior, Atilio Guzman Fernandez, to discuss the possibility of disarming the civilian population. She also said that despite the death of the Judge Suarez on 12 April, she had arranged “amicable solutions” to 413 requests for evictions in the National District.
