Bilateral agreements and conventions

The nation’s president, Dr. Joaquín Balaguer, has passed to the Senate 14 conventions and bilateral agreements, including the financing for US$28 million (360 million pesos) from the World Bank for the building of an irrigation scheme. Also submitted for the approval of Congress, via the Senate, are the financing for 15 million Ecus (249 million pesos) from the European Investment Bank for the construction and expansion of power stations in Hainamosa, Invivienda and Los Minas.

Other agreements include those on biological diversity signed during the Earth Summit of Rio de Janeiro held in June 1992 and another that would prolong the agreement signed with the United Nations in regard to the basing of Instraw in Santo Domingo. One with the Fundación Suiza de Cooperación para el Desarrollo Técnico (SUISSCONTACT) dated 11 January 1994, that would establish an office here to promote the economic, social and technical development of low income sectors. Another is that on technical cooperation signed on 21 September 1995 with Germany.
