The ambassador of Chile in the Dominican Republic, Hugo Miranda, has proposed the signing of a bilateral trade agreement. He says that Chile has already signed agreements with Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela and Bolivia and is finalizing negotiations with countries in Mercosur. He said that they are interested in improving trade with the D.R. and foresees that because of the low tariffs, Dominican exporters will be able to penetrate their market. He said that rum, tobacco, and textile products will find markets in Chile. At the present time, the D.R. exports almost nothing to Chile but imports timber, wine, and agrochemical products.
