The Asociación Dominicana de Industrias Textiles y Fabricantes de Ropa de República Dominicana (Aditex-Asfarodom) has signed an agreement with the Instituto Dominicano de Tecnología Industrial (Indotec) to start a test laboratory to assist in making the textile more competitive in international markets. The laboratory will provide modern textile testing procedures for cloth samples and raw materials. The plan seeks to bring the country to the point where it can export complete textile manufacturing services and products, and not just its labor as at present. The idea is to export clothing that has a higher local input, and will permit the country to achieve greater shares in international markets, such as Europe, the country being a signatory to the Lomé agreement. The agreement was signed by Mariano Mella, general manager of the Banco Central; Miguel J. Escala, director of Indotec; José Céspedes Romero and Dino Marranzini Puig, president and secretary of Aditex-Asfarodom.
