PRD poll shows Peña is far ahead

A poll carried out by the Chilean firm, Martínez y Salcedo Consultores, at the request of the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano, shows PRD candidate José Francisco Peña Gómez in the lead by 47.6% against the 29.4 percent of Leonel Fernández and 18.4 percent of Jacinto Peynado. The same survey shows that Peña Gómez would win the election in a second round, if it was necessary, with 52.3 percent of the votes against 44.7 percent of Leonel Fernández. Some 2,503 people were interviewed for the survey. It showed that Dr Peña Gómez has gained five percentage points since November 1995, and that his closest contender, Leonel Fernández, suffered a loss in the same amount. Jacinto Peynado gained two points during the same period.
