President Balaguer campaigned in Herrera, last week, where there is a population of some 230,000 and announced the construction of a 250 bed general hospital. While he was campaigning without his party’s candidate, Jacinto Peynado, the President said he was not actually campaigning but, rather, supporting his party, the PRSC. Dr. Balaguer showed up in the area without prior notice, but hundreds instantly congregated. Minister of Public Works, Ramón Antonio García Santos, said that the hospital will offer five basic medical specialties and will cost more than RD$100 million. It will be built by the firm of Soriano and Asociados.
