The construction sector grew by 6% in 1995, which places the country in second place in the Americas in this area of the economy. Chile has the construction sector with the greatest growth in Latin America – 11%. Brazil came in third. Engineer Diego de Moya, president of the Dominican Construction Chamber, provided the figures. He said that these three countries were the only ones in Latin America that showed positive growth rates for construction. He considered it an important area for the sustained development of the country, and in his opinion, the next government should continue with the policies of President Balaguer in this respect.
