General Luis María Pérez Bello is rumored to have been removed as chief of the Cuerpo de Ayudantes Militares of President Balaguer. He was temporarily replaced by General Hernan Disla González, the sub-chief of the corps. The press speculated that there was a connection between President Balaguer releasing his long time aide General Pérez Bello from his duties and the cancellation of a scheduled trip to Barahona. Instead, the President remained at work at the Palace. He lent his helicopter to Vice President Jacinto Peynado, and his No. 1 car and his Balaguer Movil for the campaign. In Barahona, Jacinto Peynado opened a public market, a church and the municipal cemetery. Mr Peynado campaigned with his wife and the vice presidential candidate Maribel Gassó.
