Warning to take care of the poor

The biannual meeting of the Latin American Economic Committee (CEPAL) held in San José, Costa Rica ended with a warning to the area’s countries that they will have to accelerate the pace of their economic growth to respond to problems of poverty and unemployment. While the secretary of the CEPAL, Gert Rosenthal considered that the days of the “lost decade” are over, in view of the revitalization experienced in the first half of the 90s, with moderate growths of 3%, such growth is very vulnerable and insufficient to resolve the social problems of the region.
