Leonel Fernández says, according to a report in El Caribe that Dr Peña Gómez’s ambivalence, over whether there will be an election or there is a conspiracy to stop it, introduces an element of conflict that generates a state of instability. “I emphatically state that the candidates have been able to move freely within the country, explaining their ideas, and there has been no censure. He said that as a presidential candidate he has never felt under personal threat, but if Dr Peña Gómez continues with his present conduct he will become a factor for instability, concern and a lack of tranquillity during the electoral process. In Dr Fernández’s opinion, what the country needs now is peace, tranquillity and stability to confront its serious economic and social problems.
