President Balaguer has been campaigning for his Partido Reformista Social Cristiano by handing out RD$100 notes. During his stay in Santiago, newspapers reported that long lines formed in front of his house at 51 Máximo Gómez where his personal assistant, Anibal Paez, was seen to have given RD$100 notes to those in the queue. People recognized as being very active in the PRSC were said to have received between RD$1,000 and RD$3,000.
