Traffic lights to be erected at night

In response to criticism by citizens and members of the news media, the city council of Santo Domingo has decided to suspend the erecting of traffic lights on busy corners during the day, and will now carry out the work at night. Such night work, with the help of powerful reflector lights recently purchased by the city council, has already begun on Avenida Nuñez de Caceres, Avenida Mexico, 27 de Febrero and Abraham Lincoln, and at the corner of the latter and J.F. Kennedy. In addition to the installation of the traffic lights at night, the city council’s director of urban transport, Deligne Ascención, announced the building of a median on Avenida George Washington to stop the dangerous U-turns that are frequently made on the busy thoroughfare.
