National Parks Director calls for removal of antennas from Isabel de Torres hilltop

The director of the National Parks Department, Army Captain Radhames Lora Salcedo, has called on owners of antennas used for radio and television transmissions to remove them from the Isabel de Torres hilltop in Puerto Plata because of the dangerous mud slides that have been occurring during the last few months. According to Capt. Lora Salcedo, the antennas contribute to the mud slides. He said that he has met with the owners of the antennas, who have expressed a willingness to cooperate with the National Parks Department. Efforts aimed at saving the elevation of land, which is in danger of a total collapse, have come from many non-governmental organizations and foreign governments as well as the Dominican government.
