Destec-Turbine on line with CDE

The U.S. company Destec-Turbine began operating its power station in Los Mina supplying electricity to the Corporación Dominicana de Electricidad (CDE). The Destec-Turbine plant, which operates at a generation capacity of 116,000 kilowatts, is one of two power stations under the management of said company. The other is scheduled to go on line in the next few days, while the plant operated by the Smith-Enron corporation is generating less than half of its capacity of 185,000 kilowatts due to what its public relations department calls “minor technical problems”. The CDE has periodically removed and reconnected several of its power plants in order to carry out repairs, creating a sporadic electricity service for Santo Domingo and the D.R. By the middle of last week, the state-owned electricity company was generating 950,000 kilowatts per day for a daily national demand of approximately 1,050,000 kilowatts. The reduction in the supply-demand deficit slightly reduced the power cuts in the D.R. for the week of 31 May-7 June.
