El Siglo passes to the Central Bank

Pedro Caba has been appointed director of El Siglo newspaper. The newspaper is now property of the Central Bank as it has taken over the operations of the Banco del Comercio Dominicano, turning it into a second government commercial bank, while efforts are underway to find a buyer. The state already owns and operates the Banco de Reservas. The Central Bank now controls 80% of the shares of Bancomercio. Pedro Caba, prior to his appointment, reported on economics and directed the business supplement of the newspaper Hoy. Reportedly, Editorial El Golfo was passed to Bancomercio for RD$130.4 million. According to a report in the Listin Diario, the Central bank is trying to recover the total of the multiple loans made by the shareholders of the bank to themselves, prior to negotiating the sale of the bank.
