The administration of the new Gigantes del Nordeste (San Francisco de Macoris) baseball team has assured its participation in the 1996-97 professional winter season by giving the league a check for RD$5,000,000, the last step required by the league’s administration. “With the payment of this deposit, the Gigantes have completed all requirements to become the sixth baseball team in our league, whose season will start on 25 October,” said the president of the Winter Professional League, Leonardo Matos Berrido.
What is now left for the Gigantes, who will be managed by an ex-U.S. Major League star and native of San Francisco de Macoris, Julian Javier, is the completion of the renovation of the Estadio Julian Javier, the team’s home ground.
