Group of three could become economic advisors to new president

The newspaper Hoy has reported that President-elect Leonel Fernández could rely on a trio of economic advisors. The body would be made up of two Dominican advisors and a third, a foreigner with experience in restructuring and modernization in the economies of Latin America. The foreign member would not have to be permanently resident in the D.R. but would travel here upon request to review the structural changes that will be introduced into the economy. Mario Méndez, economic editor of Hoy, says that there are several reforms still remaining to be implemented, among which are the customs duties and income tax, so that the government depends less on import taxes and more on inland revenues. This would be achieved together with the goals of reforming the financial system, electricity, customs and state institutions in general.
