The Ministry of Education has canceled the exclusive contract of Editorial Santillana, which was to provide textbooks for primary schools in the D.R. for the 1996-97 school year. The contract was revoked after the Minister of Education, Jose Andres Aybar Sanchez, announced that the books were not acceptable to the Ministry’s Commission on Books and Texts according to the new curriculum. The presidents of other textbook publishers, including Conadex, De Colores, Centenario and Rex, S.A, had asked for the exclusive contract with Santillana to be re-considered. The textbooks used for the 1995-96 school year will now be used for 1996-97.
