Government seeks treaty

The Economist Intelligence Unit has revealed that in the middle of the electoral process the Dominican government apparently made strong efforts to try and get the U.S. Congress to approve a bilateral treaty with the D.R., which would reduce the trade barriers between the two countries. It indicated it is probable that in the agreement a clause is included committing the Dominican Republic to accept safeguards on intellectual property rights. The remarks by the British publication are in the Economic Outlook Report on the D. R. corresponding for the second quarter of the year.
