A former director of the Instituto Azucarero Dominicano, Jimmy Garcia Savignon, said that extending the period for sugar production to 15 August, by the current management at the Consejo Estatal del Azucar authorities, is irresponsible. He explained that sugar cane is cut at 11-month cycles, and that extending the cycle this time around means that it will not be ready to cut next time around.
