EU broadens banana quota

The Council of Ministers of the European Union (EU) has favored the Dominican Republic with the approval of a system whereby quotas can be assigned, and this will allow banana growers to supply between 30,000 and 40,000 tons of the fruit. The announcement was made by the National Co-ordinator for LOME IV, Aristides Fernández Zucco, who also said that the system will guarantee that banana growers will be able to sell their production surplus. Fernández Zucco added that the banana growers will supply a total of around 90,000 tons to the EU this year.
