Denies financial chaos

The director of the Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Estatales (CORDE), Pedro Breton, denied the existence of financial chaos, as recently reported by a leading newspaper. He blamed the monetary board of the Central Bank for freezing the funds needed to finance the public sector. He maintained that all the companies in CORDE are up to date with their financial statements employing central and computerized accounting methods. He remembered that when he was appointed the director of CORDE, he found that the 24 companies within the group were losing RD$260 million in 1994, but his administration has reduced those losses to RD$30 million.
