The agricultural sector remains the country’s largest employer, as it uses 48% of the country’s labour force, generating 65% of visible exports, excluding the free zones, and contributing 15% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The figures were published by Félix Rojas, president of the Junta Agroempresarial Dominicana (JAD), who also said that in the last two decades the increase in agricultural production has been below the growth rate of the population. He recalled that in 1994 all the agricultural sub-sectors registered a decrease.
