Confusion and interference on television airwaves

Telemicro (Circuito Independencia), which currently operates on the Channel 6, is still waiting for the government-owned Radio Television Dominicana to give up Channel 5 so it may begin broadcasting on that frequency. Radio Television Dominicana, currently transmits its strongest signal on Channel 4. With a resolution approved last year by the Department of Telecommunications, all television stations are required to broadcast on only one frequency, putting Telemicro on Channel 5 and Radio Television on Channel 4 only. Representatives of Radio Television Dominicana, however, have said that they will stop their transmissions on Channel 5 only on a direct order from President Leonel Fernandez. The new director of Telecommunications, Ruben Montas, has said that he will take the necessary measures to reduce the interference existing on channels 5 and 6, especially on televisions receiving signals by cable.
