A “purge” of doctors in IDSS hospitals

The director of the Instituto Dominicano de Seguro Social (IDSS), Dr. Julian Serrulle, announced that beginning 16 September a “purge” will be made of those doctors who appear on the IDSS’s payroll but do no work.

Dr. Serrulle said that there are doctors on the payroll who just do no work at all, mentioning the case of one small clinic that officially has 94 doctors. He said that by trimming the IDSS’s bloated payroll, as much as RD$10,000,000 could be saved and, in turn, used to support rural clinics and hospitals.

The measures announced by Dr. Serrulle have been supported by the Asociación Médica Dominicana (AMD), the union of doctors who work in public hospitals and those of the IDSS.
