President’s press secretary resigns

Miguel Guerrero, the first press secretary of President Leonel Fernandez, resigned effective 12 September, telling the Ultima Hora newspaper that he was “the least informed person in the National Palace.” Mr. Guerrero, a well-respected journalist and author of several books on recent Dominican history, told the newspaper that he had tried to change the traditional image the press corps had of the National Palace, but was unable to do so owing to the circumstances under which he was forced to work. He refused to give details, only saying that his departure from the President Fernandez’s cabinet was “friendly and did not close the doors for future collaboration” with the current government.
