The director of the Oficina de Transporte Terrestre (OTT), Ignacio Ditren, announced that all public cars (conchos) will have proper identification on their doors by December. The small cars will have stickers identifying them as having received authorization from the OTT to operate on determined routes. The purpose of the identification, says Mr. Ditren, is to eliminate the “pirates” who operate on the routes without authorization and to reduce the users’ risk of falling victim to robberies by those posing as public car drivers.
The first route whose authorized operators were given the stickers was that of Avenida 27 de febrero, one of the busiest routes in the city, and also where Mr. Ditren says the largest number of unauthorized drivers take business away from legitimate members of the OTT.
