Immigration director says D.R. is ideal bridge for illegal voyagers

The director of the Immigration Department, Taina Gautreaux de Windt, said that the D.R. is an “ideal bridge” for illegal voyages to the United States, a phenomenon that is confirmed with detentions of illegal emigrants on a daily basis. Dr. Gautreaux said that the emigrants are not limited to Dominicans, but illegal voyagers from nations such as Pakistan, India and especially China, who have used the D.R. as a bridge to illegally enter the U.S.

She was speaking to reporters at the Palace of Justice in Ciudad Nueva, where she met with the Attorney General of the National District, Guillermo Moreno, in order to coordinate strategies for the swift prosecution of organizers of illegal voyages and any member of the Immigration Department found to have cooperated by taking bribes or charging for exit permissions.
