Monies for education

The technical secretary of the presidency, Eduardo Selman, has advised that in the coming months the government will invest some RD$1,287 million to improve elementary education. The funds will come from a loan made by the Interamerican Development Bank (US$52 million) and the World Bank (US$37 million). The government will provide the balance, and start the plan by increasing the number of school breakfasts provided from 200,000 to 400,000, and ordering the renovation of several public schools. Some 1,640,354 students are currently enrolled in Dominican schools, according to an analysis by the newspaper Listin Diario.
