The Professional Winter Baseball League will begin on 25 October in the Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo. Six teams will compete for the championship, to be decided at the end of January. The Leones del Escogido (Santo Domingo), the Tigres del Licey (Santo Domingo), the Aguilas Cibeañas (Santiago), the Estrellas Orientales (San Pedro de Macoris), the Azucareros, or Toros del Este (La Romana) and the new Gigantes del Nordeste (San Francisco de Macoris) will vie for the chance to represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series in Hermosillo, Mexico next February.
The Series is played every year between the champions of the Mexican, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican and Dominican winter leagues.
