Peynado: the PRSC didn’t work for my electoral victory

Former Vice President and 1996 presidential candidate Jacinto Peynado told the news media that the Partido Reformista Social Cristiano (PRSC), and particularly the party’s political secretary Federico Antun Battle, did not work 100% for his electoral victory in the last campaign. Mr. Peynado also includes ex-President Joaquin Balaguer in his criticism, saying something that most observers knew from the beginning: Dr. Balaguer’s efforts went to promoting the candidacy of current President Leonel Fernandez, not openly in the first round but publicly for the run-off after Mr. Peynado finished a distant third on the PRSC ticket. The ex-Vice President mentioned a number of incidents that led him to believe that the PRSC did not work for victory, but has pledged to stay in the party and attempt to run for president on its ticket in the year 2000.
