The Central Bank has announced that the real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 6.9% during the period January-September 1996. The activities which were mainly responsible for this increase were communications (16.9%); construction (13.6%); agriculture (9.6%); tourist industry (9.5%); commerce (8.6%); transportation (7.7%); water and electricity (7.3%), and government (5.7%). In general, the increase was caused by the growth in the internal and external demand for goods and services.
