The DRs Attorney General, Mariano Germ?n Mej?a, told reporters yesterday that ten members of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) were implicated in the escape of V?ctor Alegr?a ("Ni?o el Grande") from DNCD custody. Six of the men were fired, one retired and three arrested. Alegr?a is wanted in New York City for allegedly murdering a 12-year old Dominican boy. He was arrested by Interpol agents in December and put under DNCD custody pending extradition to the U.S. In early January he escaped the DNCD jail under suspicious circumstances, leading to immediate charges from many quarters that DNCD officers had been bribed to let him escape.
