Public hospital medics go on strike again

The Dominican Medical Association (AMD) ordered its members attending at public hospitals and the social security system clinics to begin a 48 hour work stoppage. This is the latest in a series of strikes carried out by the AMD. The medics are striking as the government has not met their request for a 60% wage increase. The government sent a bill to Congress that establishes where the moneys to pay for the increase would come from. Congress has not passed the bill. The strike mostly affects indigent Dominicans that are not ensured through their work or cannot afford private medical services.
