Jose Antonio Barreto Reid, sales manager for Reid & Compañía, the Chrysler dealer in the DR, shared the following statistics in an interview on automobile sales in the DR in El Siglo newspaper: Number and type of motor vehicle units: Total units: 1,580,000 60% motorcycles 23% automobiles 11% cargo vehicles 6% jeeps 74% of the vehicles motor are 80s models. In 1999, 16,500 new vehicles were imported, and 36,000 used cars, of which 80% were 1993+ models. Origin of models circulating: 35% Japan (Toyota 36%, Mitsubishi 19%) 24% Europe (Peugoeot, 20%, Skoda 17%) 16% US (Ford 36% Ford, Chrysler 23%).
