Investors present project to build industrial zone north of Boca Chica

The director of the Corporación de Fomento Industrial, José Ovalles announced yesterday that foreign investors have committed to build an industrial complex north of Boca Chica. The government will be providing a 3.5 million square meter lot in the area, where the three-part industrial complex, to be known as Distrito Industrial, will go up. The industrial complex will be made up by: Small and medium-sized company industrial park (2,500 jobs) Large-company industrial park (4,600 jobs) Industrial free zone (10,000 jobs) Ovalle made the announcement following a meeting of the investors with President Hipólito Mejía at the National Palace. Reportedly, the Distrito Industrial calls for a US$150 million investment. Investment is related to the First Union Securities investment bank in New York. The high tech park that will go up in the area would be the second of its kind and the fourth major industrial complex in the area. Already operating is the Las Americas Industrial Free Zone, and Dominican investors are promoting the construction of the Punta Caucedo Multimodal industrial and port complex. The former administration started the Santo Domingo Cyberpark under construction in the area. Names mentioned in the press as promoters of this new project and that met with President Mejía were: Dick Seelen, Bill Konner, Romulo Vega, Arlene Sosa, Sotero Peralta, Gina Dominguez, Carlos Dominguez, Margaret Guarino, Miguel Aponte, Raul Canarella, John Moran, Amable Moran, Amable Ramos, Larry Souci, O. Obregon, Luis Huerta, Rene Grullon and Manuel Machado.
