8.5% growth for 2000 forecast

The Central Bank is forecasting a Gross National Product growth of 8.5% for 2000. According to a report from the Central Bank, the economy grew 9.5% from January to September of this year. The DR has one of the fastest growing economies in the world. By sectors, growth was as follows: Mining 16.4%, Tourism 16.1%, Communications 14.1%, Transport 13.9%, Commerce 13.3%, Manufacturing 12.3%, Electricity and Water 10.4%, Farming 6.8%, Construction 6.4%, Government 4.8%.
