Rice at RD$4 a pound

Rice farmers have reached an agreement with the government on the
300,000 quintales (approximately 30 million pounds) of surplus rice that has been languishing in stores. At a meeting between President
Hip?lito Mej?a and leading rice producers, it was decided that the rice would be sold at RD$4 per pound. Although this move was aimed at
placating the farmers, as well as ensuring that this basic staple was available at an affordable price during a time of economic crisis, it
appears that there will be no restrictions in the distribution and sale of the rice, which will be available in the colmados.
