In less than two months, the United States has deported 498
Dominicans, mostly ex-convicts. This is a slight rise on the figure for the equivalent period in 2002, in which 402 people were returned
to the DR. Forty deportees arrived on a special US-government chartered flight yesterday and included among their ranks convicted
murderers, drug dealers and forgers. It is reported that as at least 3,000 Dominicans are currently held in US jails.
