Rains causing problems in small towns

The much-needed rains have caused problems for some sectors of the country. Especially affected are the towns around Nagua in the northeast, those around Santiago in the north-central and those in northwestern provinces, where many houses were flooded and sometimes carried away, along with all its possessions, by the torrential rains.
In Nagua, thousands of acres of rice crops were flooded in the area around El Pozo, threatening to result in a loss of RD$120 million if the waters do not recede quickly. Some 50 hamlets in the area were partially flooded, according to the provincial governor, Amada L?pez.
In Santiago, the neighborhoods of Berm?dez, Libertad, Cruz de Maril?pez, Pek?n, Cienfuegos and El Ingenio were seriously affected by the rains. The Civil Defense received reports of crop flooding and rural dwelling damages in the northwestern provinces. And in the mountain communities to the south of the Cibao Valley there were reports of bridges and overflowing rivers damaged by water crossovers.
