Hoy newspaper, in Sunday?s ?Babel Economica? column, mentions economist Julio Ortega Tous as source for information on the rediscounts and advances authorized by the Central Bank. Ortega is in charge of the Central Bank department that keeps track of these facilities offered to private banks. The rediscounts and advances granted by the Central Bank since August 2002 are:
As of August 2002: RD$400 million
By September 2002: RD$2 billion
By October 2002: RD$1.8 billion
By November 2002: RD$2.6 billion
By December 2002: RD$6.6 billion.
By March 2003: RD$8.6 billion
By June 2003: RD$13 billion.
All the listed rediscounts were allotted to Baninter, with the exception of RD$3 billion to Banco Nacional de Credito (Bancredito).
