Tropical Storm Claudette passed just south of the Dominican Republic, leaving most parts of the country very wet. Rainfall in Santo Domingo flooded the streets, making traffic total chaos. High winds caused trees to fall and electrical circuits to fail, and blackouts were the order of the day. Radham?s Lora, the head of the national Emergency Commission, said that Claudette was not a serious threat to the country beyond the winds and rains that arrived yesterday afternoon and early evening. In Santo Domingo the rains reminded once again the lack of storm drains for these situations.
