Diario Libre has been following the story of the US$950,000 helicopter purchased for the use of PRSC kingpin and secretary of the Dominican Municipal League, Amable Aristy Castro.
The municipal organization, which acts as a clearing house for funds allotted to city governments nationwide, and which a bill in Congress has considered abolishing for its null contribution to the wellbeing of these, financed the helicopter, despite widespread opposition once the transaction?s intent was made known in the press. Diario Libre estimates that at today?s exchange rate the helicopter, which was purchased on credit, will cost Dominican taxpayers over RD$80 million. Aristy Castro had promised not to purchase the helicopter, once the widespread opposition was generated and has since been without comment.
