The Presidential Palace was without telephone, Internet and fax capabilities yesterday, having had its service cut by Verizon for arrears on its account. As of 4pm yesterday, no outgoing calls could be made from the numerous telephone numbers listed at the seat of government, affecting various government departments and forcing employees to rely on their private cell phones. The ?temporary suspension? of services seemed not to affect incoming calls. The amount owed to Verizon could not be confirmed, although one source said it was ?a lot of money? as the bills have not been paid in three months. An immediate solution to restore the lines of communication will be difficult to achieve, says the report in El Nacional, because of the strict terms applied to clients in arrears. Payment arrangements do not necessarily reverse service suspension, said one Verizon official.
