On Wednesday, former President Hipolito Mejia said that the government seeks to mount a “political show” with the prosecution of former government officers. An article in the Listin Diario highlights that 365 PRD members present at a gathering called last night voted to defend former President Hipolito Mejia and president of the PRD, former Customs Director Vicente Sanchez Baret. The director of Customs has accused Sanchez Baret of allowing major tax evasions in the department.
Orlando Gil, political analyst of the Listin Diario, says that the PRD officers are keeping mute and not distancing themselves from the cases against past government officers at the present time because they seek the support of these during the upcoming PRD convention set for 5 June.
