Two events sponsored by the Ministry of Culture have just opened in Santo Domingo and should be on the agenda of city residents and those visiting Santo Domingo.
The 2005 book fair (21 April- 1 May) is being staged at the Plaza de la Cultura and puts culture on the big stage. This year’s fair is dedicated to Italy, but the program also includes continuous live entertainment at the fair site, which this year is the Plaza de la Cultura. Five halls and five outdoor stages will be hosting circus, dance, drama, jazz, fusion, folklore, choirs and children’s musical performances all throughout the extensive Plaza de la Cultura for the 10-day event.
Also not to be missed is French photographer Yann Arthurs-Bertrand’s inspiring exhibition, “Earth from the Air” at the open air art gallery set up at the Independence Park from 22 April to 22 June. The featured photographs are part of a collection that illustrates the earth’s beauty and fragility. The French photographer flew over the Dominican Republic and Haiti between the 19th and 23rd of February 2005.
