President Leonel Fernandez has authorized the governmental guarantee for the Central Electoral Board (JCE) to receive a US$62.7 million loan with the support of the export agencies of the United States and Brazil, Eximbank and BNDES, respectively. US$39 million will go toward automating the registry offices, and the rest toward the implementation of the electronic vote starting from the 2008 presidential election.

The loan requires congressional approval.

The automation of the registry offices will be carried out by Consorcio Soluciones Modernas. The loan will be paid over 12 years at an interest rate of 5% and a two-year grace period.
